Mediterranean
literature festival

A series of poetry evenings exploring creative writing in
Mediterranean languages and parallels between the poetry of those
countries, which culminate in a Mediterranean literature festival in
the Netherlands in december 2005.
The Turkish Art Foundation Sahne organizes the fourth
Mediterranean
literature festival in six cities (Rotterdam, Amsterdam,
The Hague, Leiden, Utrecht en Tilburg) between 14-18 december 2005.
Seven writers from seven countries visit the Netherlands and
give readings and present their work.

Kaklamanaki Roula
: Born in Pireaus and has been studied at the university of
Athens. She built a career as juriste,
but later she would be especially confessed as a Member of
Parliament: She has been chosen two times in the parliament.
Between 1981 and 1988 she has held a State Secretary function at
the Greek ministry of culture . The multi-purpose poet Roula
write poems and prose, translations of poëzie and moreover she
contributes with her articles and columns to newspapers.
Innumerable poems of her are appeared abbroad.

Zahra Ziraoui:
born in Marrakech. She has been mainly influenced by modern Arab
literature. She graduated in 1961, and started her career as a
teacher and a
journalist. Ms. Ziraoui has so far, besides her many poems and
articles in the newspapers, six boeks (poems) published. At
present she is among other things operative at the university of
Rabad. The writer has also seven
novels and tale books on her name. She writes her essays and
articles among other things in the following newspapers:
Ezzamane ell Jadid, Elmada, Culture Marocaine, Akhbar, Already
Adab, Amman, Littératures libanaises, le novel, le Critique.
Hilmi Yavuz :
Mr Yavuz is born in 1936, in Istanbul and has graduated
literature at the university of London. Besides his fourteen
poetry books, he has philosophical articles and researches in
the different newspapers as a docent at the university of Mimar
Sinan and the Bosphorus university in Istanbul. In his youth
years he was influenced by the so-called "Second New" wave, a
much-discussed , romantic stroming in the poetry of the middle
Fifties. This stroming can be compared
with the Fifties in the Netherlands. Nowadays he belongs rather
to the realistic stroming and is socially oriented. Yavuz has
been very famous because of his peculiar and refined style.
Hilmi Yavuz has two famous poetry prizes (with his ` Eastern
Poems`, the Yeditepe poetry prize and with his ` Temporary
Poems` the Sedat Simavi Literature
Prize) on his name and he is at present one of the most
important names in the contemporary Turkish poetry.

Claudio Pozzani
(Italy) is a poet, musician and
organizer of international poetry events, such as the
international poetry festival in Genua, Italy, Helsinki Runo
festival (Finland), La Semaine Poétique in Paris, Music &Poetry
in Munich (Germany). Pozzani have been famous by his public
recitations on a lot of international poetry festivals in
Europe, Latin America and Canada. His poems have been
translated in more than ten languages and
appeared in important, contemporary
international (poetry) magazines. Pozzani is the founder of the
House of the Poetry (Circolo dei Viaggiatori nel tempo) in
Genua. |
Libero Ubeya:
Born in 1957, in south Spain. He has spend many years for
appreciation and normalisation of Andalusisch. He is except
writer, also designer and editor of illustrated magazines such
as Layon Leto etc. Also he is President of Ekonon (advisory body
for the conservation of Andalusisch). But everything he wants to
be an Andalusische poet. The poetry book ` Labarta - in
Gesprek` of this poet who lives in Madrid has apperared in 15
January 2005 in Dutch. The topic of Labarta is the uprooting of
people. The first copy of this book was distributed at the
opening in Holland to the Spanish ambassador in the Netherlands.
At that occasion the dichter and translator have presented
some poems in resp. Andalusisch and Dutch. |
Halil Dzananovic:
Born in 1955, in Srebrenica and has studied at the university of
Belgrado. He
wrote for a long time in the Yugoslavian daily ` Daily Voice`,
but during the civil war he had to escape to the Netherlands. So
far two poetry books of Dzananovic have appeared and the third
lies at present at the printer.
Hester Knibbe:
Born in 1946 in the Netherlands. She made her debut in 1982,
with her collection ` Between Gestures and Words`. In 1999,
Knibbe received the prestigious Herman Gorter price for her
work ` Anti death`. The poet has published since 1982 seven
books and received in 2001 the Anna Blamanprijs in the
Netherlands. She chooses frequently for personal subjects and
says that those are in fact ` the most universal`. Hester
Knibbe have also acted in 1994, in Turkey. |
